# Product Categories

**Product Categories** allow you to organize and classify your products in a hierarchical and structured way.

## Overview

Categories help organize the product catalog into logical groups, making navigation, search, and management of the products offered by your company easier.

## Features

To create a new category:

1. Go to the Categories section
2. Click "New Category"
3. Define the category name
4. (Optional) Select a parent category to create a subcategory
5. Add a description (optional)
6. Save the category

### Hierarchical Categories

You can create a hierarchical category structure:

* **Main Category** - Top level of the hierarchy
* **Subcategories** - Categories within other categories
* **Multiple Levels** - Create as many levels as needed

**Example:**

```
Electronics
  ├── Computers
  │   ├── Laptops
  │   └── Desktops
  └── Smartphones
      ├── Android
      └── iOS
```

### Associating Products with Categories

2. Go to the Categories section
3. Select one or more categories
4. Save the changes

A product can belong to multiple categories.

You can:

* **Edit** - Modify category name and description
* **Reorganize** - Move categories in the hierarchy
* **Delete** - Remove categories (products need to be moved first)

## Benefits of Categories

* **Logical organization** - Group related products
* **Filters and search** - Filter products by category
* **Reports** - Analyze sales and performance by category
* **Organized interface** - Present products in a structured way

## Best Practices

* Use clear and descriptive names for categories

* Avoid creating too many categories at the same level
* Periodically review the category structure
